MaryAnn Innis
MaryAnn Innis, 79, was taken into heaven to be with the Lord on March 3, 2020, spending her last earthly days at Sun City Center Hospice. MaryAnn was born on August 24, 1941, in Richmond, IN, to parents, Wilbur and Emma Thomas. MaryAnn loved school and was very active in various clubs at her high school. When she turned 18, she left Richmond to attend Indiana University. During her summer breaks, she returned to Richmond to volunteer at Reid Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aid. She graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech and hearing therapy. After relocating to Orlando, FL, she found employment with the Orange County School district, teaching learning disabled students. She relocated to Jacksonville and worked for the School District of Duval County.
She taught 9th grade at Sandalwood High School for eight years. At this time, MaryAnn decided to further her education. She enrolled at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and graduated with a master’s degree working with students who had learning disabilities and/or were emotionally handicapped. She continued working for Duval County until she moved to Orlando. She once again went to work for Orange County as an area supervisor. After a 30-year career in education, MaryAnn retired and moved to Kings Point in Sun City Center in 2003.
MaryAnn was an avid reader. She also played the piano, organ, flute and piccolo. During her lifetime, she traveled all over Europe to places such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland; plus a few Caribbean islands. While living in Sun City Center, MaryAnn was a volunteer with Nondenominational Christian Worship Services (NCWS) for 12 years. NCWS is an important ministry to the Sun City Center community as it brings worship services to those individuals in local facilities who are no longer able to attend a church of their choice. Belvedere Commons is one of the facilities that benefits from this ministry and became MaryAnn’s home from September 2017 to the present.
MaryAnn is survived by a niece Renee Knighton of Ashton, VA; a great-nephew Christian; and great-niece Olivia. Inurnment will be in Richmond, IN.
