July 4 CA activities promise holiday fun
By PHYLLIS HODGES

The 3-Dom Band will be performing 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the SCC Community Association bandstand (Central Campus) as part of the entertainment to be enjoyed at the CA-sponsored July 4 Family Fun Day.
With July 4 fast approaching, Sun City Center residents are exploring fun things to do for the holiday, and SCC Community Association President Sam Sudman has some suggestions. “Who needs fireworks to celebrate Independence Day?” he asks and points out that a hearty breakfast, which is open to the public, will be offered at Community Hall. Then, for CA members and guests, there is Family Fun Day on the CA Central Campus that includes swim fun, entertainment poolside and at the bandstand, tasty treats from an on-site food truck and free ice cream (while it lasts).
The breakfast at Community Hall, 1910 Pebble Beach S., will be served from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and costs only $5 for pancakes, eggs, sausage, toast, juice and coffee. Members of the SCC Organ and Keyboard Club will be livening up the hall with their own special brand of music as breakfast is served by volunteers decked out in red, white, blue and bright smiles.
The Community Association-sponsored holiday breakfasts are becoming a tradition and are enjoyed by Sun City Center residents, as well as others from surrounding communities. Last year over 1,300 breakfasts were served by 175+ volunteers. “Volunteers are the lifeblood of these events, and we are grateful that so many step forward to help,” said Floyd and Brenda Curvin, organizers of both the July 4 and December breakfasts. They still need community-minded volunteers to fill vacancies on both shifts. (Length of shift varies with the job; most are about two hours and none are over three.) At press time, they still needed about 35 workers to sign in workers, cook and/or prepare food, serve food/beverages, direct visitors, bus tables, provide special assistance and serve as floaters for whatever needs to be done. Contact the Curvins at scchbreakfast@gmail.com for more information about duties and shifts for jobs that might interest you.
For Family Fun Day on the CA Central Campus (Pebble Beach North) members, the outside pool will be open all day to the entire family, including children. Entertainment starts at 10 a.m. at poolside with Karaoke and music for dancing by Spirit Entertainment. Then, at 12:30 p.m., the fun moves to the bandstand where the 3-DOM power trio will perform top-notch music from popular icons like Billy Joel, Elton John, Paul Simon, The Beatles, Motown, The Eagles, Supertramp, Hall & Oates, The Spinners and Journey. The lawn area around the bandstand is golf cart accessible, and there will be a roped-off section up front for lawn chairs and blankets.
Sudman explained that the holiday breakfasts in July and December help fund CA-sponsored activities such as this 4th of July celebration and the holiday golf cart parade. “We appreciate the volunteers who make these events possible and the outstanding community support.”
