If you are out and about in Sun City Center this Friday, between 1 and 3 p.m., you may wonder why there are a bunch of golf carts driving information around town. Mystery solved. That will be the chamber’s last golf cart poker run of the season. It’s an afternoon that always promises food, fun and camaraderie.
For those of you who have never participated, here’s how it works. On the first Friday of every month, from October through May, seven businesses sign up to become stops along the Sun City Center golf cart path. Golf cart drivers and their passengers stop by each of these local businesses to get a tour, some refreshments and handouts, and, most importantly — a poker card. It gives business owners the chance to explain their business or services to residents. Golf cart participants get to meet those business owners, whom they may not know, and the other residents who are along for the ride. The chamber is always the last stop, where participants discard their worst two cards to try to get a wining poker hand. The top three winners get prizes, and the refreshments and camaraderie continue.
The stops on Friday will include Gabriel Mbulo of Edward Jones, who will be set up at the Chamber; South Bay Hospital; The Vein Institute; AAA Auto Club; The Golf Cart Shop of SCC; Aston Gardens; and, finally, Sam’s Club, back at the chamber.
If you are a golf cart driver or passenger, $10 per person gives you the chance to join the group and play poker in your golf cart. Participants: we do ask you to RSVP by tomorrow (813-634-5111) to give all of our stops a head count. I look forward to seeing you all on Friday.
Remember–– food, fun, camaraderie and poker!
There is a chance of rain on Friday. But we know how it goes in Florida — if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute.
