Have you attended Ruskin Christian School (RCS) anytime since its inception on the South Shore in 1968?
If you are an alumni for any grade or for any period of time, or if a non-alum, come on out to the hidden jewel of a campus on West College Avenue. Make plans now to attend some of the festivities at the RCS Homecoming celebration and Spirit Week running Jan. 22 through Jan. 25 at the K through 12 private school, which sits on the verdant, tranquil grounds in back of First Baptist Church of Ruskin.
For 50 years RCS, which was established under the direction and leadership of First Baptist Church, has provided young people with a quality academic education integrated with a Christian view of God and the world. The theme for the 50th anniversary of RCS is “Proud Past — Focused Future.” Presently serving 271 students from 2 years old up through 12th grade, RCS continues to live up to its motto: Rewarding Experience, Christian Perspective, Serving Others.
Homecoming festivities and Spirit Week celebrations started Tuesday and run through Friday evening. The Student Council selected a specific theme for each day except for Thursday when the theme is selected by each class. Students are excited about the change-of-pace offered by Spirit Week as it is a full week of excitement leading up to the Homecoming game in the gym on Friday night.
Ruskin Christian School invites all alumni to any of the homecoming activities, according to Tim Vanderveer, RCS administrator. “We look forward to seeing past graduates anytime they are in the area.”
Warriors’ basketball games this week are on Tuesday and Friday. The game schedule for Friday, Jan. 25, starts at 3:30 p.m. with an in-house scrimmage of the boys’ junior high team. The junior varsity boys play Pathway Academy at 4:30. The homecoming class representatives and their escorts will be introduced just before tipoff of the 6 p.m. varsity boys’ game. The class representatives and their escorts are: 7th grade – Luna Leon and Ryan Hampton; 8th grade – Sophia McDaniel and Alex Rodriguez; 9th grade – Klarissa Solis and Sam Tuch; 10th grade – Sheena Freed and Gino Titus; 11th grade – Hannah Tyer and Anthony Jacobs.
The 2019 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime of the varsity boys’ game. There are five queen and king candidates. They are Elaina Chavez and Levi Wynn, Eve Marvin and Noah Narvaez, Elisheva Marvin and Dylan Northrop, Emily Heath and Noah Statham, and Yaleliz Munoz and Stephen Paine. The current reigning king and queen, Chase Brown (now at Webber College) and Tabitha Gulotta (now at Word of Life Bible Institute) will be in attendance to crown the new king and queen.
