Delois Byer
Delois Dorelta Byer (Dee) of Sun City Center, Fla., died November 30, 2018. She was born in Rollin, Mich. January 15, 1923, to Ray LaGrand Linsner and Doylah (Van Camp) Linsner. She married Sheldon Robert Ferris January 25, 1940, He predeceased her on May 6, 1962.
She lived in Michigan and worked in the accounting department of the University of Michigan. She married Arthur Harold Byer April 15, 1972. They moved to Apollo Beach, Fla., in 1981, where Arthur pursued his career as a plumbing supplier and contractor. They moved to Sun City Center in 1983. Her husband Arthur predeceased her September 21, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her two children, Shelley (Ferris) Welper (Gene) of Sun City Center and Doylah Kay (Ferris) Kadlec (Robert) of Chelsea, Mich. She is also survived by stepchildren, Barbara (Byer) Bowman (Paul), Murphy, N.C. and Leonard Byer (Pamela), Kettering, Ohio. She is survived by grandchildren Sheldon McCracken, Montpelier, Va.; Laura Burget, Clinton, Iowa; Robert Welper, San Diego, Calif.; Pamela Huber, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three step-grandchildren. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Josiah McCracken, Montpelier, Va.; Cailen McCracken, Montpelier, Va.; Emily (Burget) Wiedmann, Milan, Mich.; Andrew Burget, Battle Creek, Mich.; Gia Huber, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and, six step-great-grandchildren.
At her request there will be no services.
Gwendolyn Haegert
Gwendolyn (Gwen) Haegert, 92, of Sun City Center, passed December 11, 2018. Gwen was born in Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Emporia State College with a master’s degree in Library Science. Gwen was employed by the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library for many years and moved to Sun City Center in 2001.
Her many hobbies and activities included bunka, oil painting, reading, travel, camping, bird-watching and cruising. Gwen attended and was active in her church family at South Shore United Church of Christ. Gwen truly enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by a brother Daniel Lee Haeger of Sun City Center, a nephew Dr. Stanley (Deborah) Haeger of Colorado and their children Melissa Joy (Nathan) Dykhus and Janelle Marie Hagert, niece Laura Marie (James Andrew) Grenier and their children Matthew James Grenier, Aaron Michael Grenier and Abby Rae (Nick) Simonsson.
Gwen will be deeply missed by her loving and devoted longtime friend and companion Patricia (Patti) Andrews. A Celebration of Gwen’s life will be on December 27, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the South Shore United Church of Christ, 1501 La Jolla Ave., Sun City Center, FL 33573. Donation in Gwen’s memory may be made to the church.
Leslie MacDonald Hill
Leslie MacDonald Hill (Les), 81, of Sun City Center, Fla., joined his God on December 9, 2018. Born in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, he served in the Canadian Air Force. He was a graduate of Western University, London, Ontario with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
As an executive and Vice-President for Kert Advertising, he and his family transferred to Florida. In his retirement years, he enjoyed life on the road as a long-haul truck driver. A member of the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center, he served as Director of the Parking Ministry, greeting all who entered the campus.
He is survived by his wife Pat; children: Steve Hill (Carol), Kimberly Hill, Ashley Hill Zientara (Jim), Cameron Hill (Erin); grandchildren: Ross Hill, Alexander Hill, Hannah Hill, Mason Mills, Jake Hill, Finnigan Zientara, Hunter Hill, and sister, Margaret Van Viet (Dick).
A Celebration of Life will be held at the United Methodist Church of SCC on January 4 at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the church.
William D. Millican
Dr. William D. Millican, loving husband and father, died Sunday, December 9, 2018, at 83 years of age.
Bill was born February 24, 1935, in Fort Worth, Texas, to William and Loleta Millican. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Hardin Simmons University, a Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministry at Luther Rice Seminary. He pastored 51 years in many churches in the USA, including Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, and Florida, but never retired from sharing Christ’s love with others.
Sixty years ago, on August 16, he married his true love, Darlene, then raised three daughters, Cindy, Cathy and Melody.
Bill’s passions were God, family, friends, baseball and Bluebell ice cream. His wisdom, honor, and quick wit were unparalleled. With a kind and compassionate spirit, he shared Christ’s love on the baseball field, grocery store, church, etc., so others could find true meaning in life — a personal relationship with Jesus.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister Melinda. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and four grandchildren.
Celia Oyola
Celia Oyola, age 40, passed away, but not without a good fight on December 10, 2018, at CB Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
Born in Clovis, New Mexico on July 16, 1978, to mother Somphan Sarucharn and father Ben Oyola. She is survived by husband Samuel Furey; sons Aiden Oyola, Benjamin Beller and Ryan Beller; sisters Tina Leeds and Jessi Minns; brothers James Hahn and Justin Hahn, as well as both parents.
Celia Oyola, you were an amazing mother, partner and friend. You will be missed dearly. But if we close our eyes and think of you, you will not be far away.
