The Angela Slater Memorial Golf Classic will be held on Nov. 17 at Summerfield Crossing Golf Club. Angela Slater coached softball at Brandon High School and later at Riverview High School, amassing more than 500 victories in her illustrious coaching career. Slater had been Riverview’s only coach since the school opened in 1996. Within her first five years at the school, she guided the program to two state championships and a state runner-up finish. Slater was diagnosed with large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, an aggressive form of cancer and she lost her battle with cancer on Feb. 4, 2016, at the age of 53.
