Coach LaRosa looking for another winning season at East Bay
Indians open at Riverview Aug. 24
East Bay opens its regular season football season Friday, Aug. 24 at Riverview at 7:30 pm. It is not a district game but it is a clash of neighbors that East Bay has pretty much dominated over the years. Last year the Indians handed Riverview a resounding 35-3 thrashing. Overall last season East Bay was 5-4 with the game against Robinson cancelled due to Hurricane Irma.
East Bay’s head coach is Frank LaRosa, a transplant who went to high school in Long Island where he was a two-year starter on the offensive line and at linebacker. Then LaRosa attended college in Upstate New York at Ithaca College. LaRosa is now in his 14th season coaching football at East Bay. He has been head football coach since 2011 and has put together a 37-34 worksheet with the Indians. LaRosa also teaches physical education at East Bay.
Previewing this year’s version of Indian football, LaRosa had this to say: “Going into the fall season, one of our team strengths is our cohesiveness and team-first mentality. We had a successful summer with the majority of our players attending summer workouts and growing together.”
Pondering his team in preseason workouts, La Rosa said some of his key players for this season include: Tre Everett (5 feet, 9 inches, 190 pounds, RB/DB, Senior), Jontrell Oliver (6 feet, 3 inches, 225 pounds, DE/TE, Senior), Joaquin Isidro (5 feet, 9 inches, 190 pounds, RB/DB, Senior), Levi Marshall (6 feet, 1 inch, 210 pounds, LB/TE, Senior), and Cam Hines (6 feet, 2 inches, 220 pounds, OL/DL, Senior).
Asked to speculate on East Bay’s chances this season of making the playoffs, LaRosa had this to say: “In a very competitive district, we will have to play fundamental football with some big plays mixed in to compete with our schedule. Every season brings new storylines, and this fall will be no different.”
LaRosa’s assistants and duties are: Daryl Stewart, defensive coordinator; Tony Rodriguez, offensive coordinator; Tyler Schuerman, quarterbacks; Jeff Turner, running backs; Jim Hutchinson, offensive line; Billy Williams, offensive line; Boe Butler, defensive line; Josh Herman, linebackers; Randy Cortez, linebackers; Josh Ortega, defensive backs; Eric Holtkamp, offensive assistant; and JV head coach, and Steven Wint, offensive assistant.
