Extended hours; volunteers needed
By LYNNE CONLAN
Executive Director, Sun City Center Area Chamber of Commerce
Changes are happening daily around the chamber this year. And I want to share the latest with you. We’re now keeping our doors open on Wednesday afternoons to better assist our members and Sun City Center area residents. So, while we’ll be open Wednesday afternoons helping and assisting, we’ll need some help and assistance ourselves. We’re going to need some additional volunteers. Our volunteers are an integral part of our chamber staff. They help us each day to assure the chamber runs at top speed and efficiency. So that is where you could fit in. If you feel you’d like to become an addition to our volunteer team, here’s what we are looking for in a volunteer.
Answering phones and dealing with walk-ins are the two biggest tasks. And along with those calls and walk-ins comes a lot of question answering. But we’ll provide you with the tools you need — lists and lists of numbers to the resources around town. But a lot of your answers are just common sense. And you are part of a referral center. Residents call or come in looking for dentists, realtors, handymen. And you have their answers — in the chamber membership directory. You’re the key to referring our members to residents. And if you have a skill set from a previous job or other volunteer position, we’ll put that to use, as well. For example, computer skills are not necessary but are always helpful.
Volunteer shifts are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. And if Wednesday’s afternoon shift isn’t a good option for you, we always need fill-in help when our regular volunteers need some time off.
If you think you have what it takes to become one of our team, give Dexter a call at the chamber, 813-634-5111. He’ll give you the ins and outs of what we’re all about. I hope you’ll consider becoming part of our amazing volunteer team. We can’t do it all without you.
