James W. Duffy
Jim Duffy, 79, of Sun City Center, Fla., died May 25, 2017. He was born in Elmira, N.Y. on March 12, 1938. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School in Binghamton, N.Y. and from Drexel University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and George Washington University with a master’s in Business Administration.
Jim and Joann Strait Duffy were married on November 11, 1961. They met in high school and enjoyed rock-and-roll music, movies, world travel and just being together.
Working at IBM, he was Plant Operations Director at Owego, N.Y. (1975-1978), Plant Manager at Charlotte, N.C. (1978 to 1982), and a General Manager at Lexington, Ky. (1982 to 1991). He moved to Sun City Center after retiring from IBM.
He was president of the Rotary Club of Sun City Center in 2005, Planning Chair of the Sun City Center Community Association Planning Committee from 2003 to 2005 and Planning Chair of the SouthShore Roundtable from 2005 to 2008. He was a member of the Caloosa Golf & Country Club, where he was the Greens Chair and member of the Board of Directors from 2011 to 2012. Significant projects in Sun City Center included working to keep the South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center and repurposing the closed golf courses.
He was a lifelong public library user and strongly believed that libraries play an important role in the community and learning for children and adults. In 2004, he was involved with the planning and approval of the SouthShore Regional Library. He was a founder of the Friends of the SouthShore Library and was President of the SouthShore Friends of the Library for eight years. He was appointed to the Hillsborough County Library Board and served from 2012 to 2014. The Community Room at the SouthShore Regional Library was named the “Jim Duffy Community Room.”
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joann Duffy, son, William Duffy and his wife, Anushe of Pompano Beach, Fla., two daughters Laura Turley of Georgetown, Ky. and Alison Harris and her husband, Russ of Northborough, Mass.

Clifford W. Beaumont
Clifford W. Beaumont, 101, of Sun City Center, died May 31, 2017. Clifford was born June 23, 1915 to the late Harry and Lydia (Mead) Beaumont of Hamlin, N.Y. Cliff was predeceased by his wife, Grace E. (Meeder) Beaumont, who passed away on January 8, 2012. They enjoyed 77 years of marriage.
Cliff owned and operated a feed and grain business for farmers in Western New York until he retired to Sun City Center in 1965. Cliff and Grace were charter members of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a member of Gideons International and founder of Sun City Center Gideon Camp.
Cliff is survived by his daughters, Lois (Walter) Lang of Oneida, N.Y.; JoAnn (Edward) Blaszak of LeRoy, N.Y.; and Jean (Dale) Boltz, of Lancaster, N.Y. He is also survived by five granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cypress Creek Assisted Living Facility for the compassionate care Cliff received the last three years.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at Union Park Cemetery, Wethersfield Springs, N.Y.
