Joseph McDonnell
Joseph McDonnell, age 88, of Sun City Center, Fla. passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Born in New York City on August 7, 1928, Joe raised his family in Long Island, N.Y. before moving to Tampa Bay.
In Joe’s passing the world lost an original mind, an independent thinker ahead of his time. Joe was the kind of man who made friends everywhere he went and made you feel like you had known him for years after only just meeting. He stretched the notion of “family” widely, and loved his family vigorously. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather brother and friend. Joe leaves his beloved wife Florence, two children, five step-children, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A Korean War Veteran, Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army for six years. His wit, self-depreciating humor, kindness and razor-sharp intellect will stay forever with all who knew him. In Joe’s memory, the McDonnell Family requests memorial contributions be made to LifePath Hospice, 12470 Telecom Drive, Suite 300, Temple Terrace, Florida 33637.
