Pizza and cars make a winning combination for area businesses
By ANDREA SHAY
For those who missed it, Feb. 10 marked National Pizza Day, which came fortuitously for Joey D’s Chicago Style Eatery. The restaurant’s monthly car show just happened to fall on the following day, and the Italian restaurant was packed full of patrons. Every second Saturday, Joey D’s on Manatee Avenue — formerly located on 14th Street West — hosts a car show in conjunction with Lance’s Cruzin’ to the Hop.
The event typically runs from 5 to 9 p.m., is free and open to the public. Those who would like to enter their vehicles in any of the show’s competitions can register for $10. The car show at Joey D’s offers trophies and door prizes for winning vehicles.
Entries ranged from restored antique Model-T Fords to hot rods and vintage classics like ’50s- to ’80s-era Camaros and Firebirds.
Lance’s Cruzin’ to the Hop has three upcoming shows this weekend for car aficionados who may have missed last weekend’s event. Friday, Feb. 17, Lance’s will be at Denny’s in Venice from 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 18, they’ll be at the Sarasota Classic Car Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; then at Wendy’s in Northport from 5 to 9 p.m.
