Florida State Fair promotions celebrate veterans, seniors, nonprofits, more

The 12 days of the 2017 Florida State Fair, Feb. 9 through 20, include giveaways, deals and promotions to celebrate all that is great about the fair — and its attendees. With more than 100 things to see and do included in the price of admission, fair fans with availability during the week can enjoy special incentives and explore all the entertainment and attractions — while avoiding the weekend crowds. Save even more time and buy tickets online at, or purchase at a local Walgreens (through Feb. 8).

Feb. 9 (Opening Day): Salute to Heroes — All active, reserve, retired military veterans, law enforcement, firemen and first responders are admitted free with valid ID. There will be a special commemorative giveaway to recognize these heroes.

Feb. 11 and 18: 4-H and FFA Days — 4-H and FFA students admitted free with ID or jacket.

Feb. 13-17: Seniorific Days — These days feature senior discounts at the gate and a robust schedule of senior-specific programs, including a presence by Central Florida Speech and Hearing, which will provide qualified special needs seniors with phones on site. Programming by a dementia awareness organization also is planned.

Feb. 14: Valentine’s Day — Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your love and receive special giveaways including coupons and candy, courtesy of the Simon Shopping group and 2-for-1 rides on the Giant Wheel sponsored by Wade Shows.

Feb. 14 and 15 at 2 p.m.: Country Gold Tour — $20 for reserved chair seating and $10 general admission bleacher seating.

Feb. 15: Grandparents’ Day — Grandparents and other caregivers and preschoolers will receive special giveaways, including coloring books for children. Programming specifically tailored for grandparents and preschoolers, such as special tours of the agriculture area and Cracker Country, will take place all day. Children and adults also can collaborate on a coloring wall, enjoy Library Storytimes with the Hillsborough County Public Library and more.

Feb. 16: The Fair Cares Non-Profit Appreciation Day and Thrifty Thursday — Members of nonprofit organizations are invited to enter a raffle for cash prizes to be awarded to both the individual and their organization by the Fair Authority. There will be a special give-away* and a discounted Midway promotion.

Feb. 17: $5 Friday after 5 p.m. — Guests admitted for $5 after 5 p.m. (Sold only at the Fairgrounds.)

Feb. 20: Family Fun Pack — $25 admission for up to four people. (Sold only at the Fairgrounds.)

Student Days — Students receive a free ticket distributed by the school district in the various counties of Hillsborough (Feb. 10); Manatee and Sarasota (Feb. 20).

Gold Access Program — Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and the last day of the fair (Feb.10, 11, 12, 18, 19, 20) — This enhancement, available with the purchase of a ride armband, grants guests special express access at midway rides for a $15 upgrade fee. (Limited number sold each day.)
