If you’re a regular Saturday morning listener of “Ask an Attorney All About Florida Law,” you’re familiar with lawyer Joe Pippen and his free advice on estate planning, living trusts, probate wills and other legal matters.
If you’re not, WSCQ Sun Radio 96.3 FM, one of a half-dozen stations he can be heard on locally in the Tampa Bay area, is hosting Meet the Attorney Jan. 25 at the Sun City Center Area Chamber of Commerce, 1651 Sun City Center Plaza. The gathering is an opportunity for residents to hear Pippen speak briefly on wills and trusts, and then ask him any legal questions.
The event is free, and the station is providing light refreshments. The doors open at 1:45 p.m.; the program starts at 2. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis, and everyone is welcome.
“I was invited by the station (Sun Radio 96.3 FM) to speak as I am often asked to do because of my radio show, which after 32 years is the longest-running continuous program in Florida,” Pippen said. “In the mid ’80s, I was nationally syndicated two years and was heard on 39 stations and 82 cities.”
Pippen said he likes doing a radio show where listeners of all ages get to ask questions.
“I’ve had callers as young as high school students asking legal questions about entry into their lockers.”
During his Sun City Center engagement, Pippen will talk about 15 minutes on estate planning, which he said everyone needs, not only seniors.
“Everyone has three options,” he added. “Do nothing; have a will; or (form) a living trust.”
Pippen, 70, was born in Richmond, Va. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from from Virginia Tech in 1969 and served as a combat engineering group captain in the National Guard.
After about 13 years in business management positions, he enrolled in the University of Baltimore Law School, graduated with a Juris Doctorate (in 1975) and began practicing law in 1982.
His law firm currently has offices in nine Florida counties, including Hillsborough (Sun City Center and Tampa); Manatee (Lakewood Ranch); and Pinellas (Largo).
Pippen himself is an estate planning attorney, but per his website, www.attypip.com, his firm of seven attorneys offers help with issues involving “estate and tax planning, probate, real estate, asset protection, Medicaid, bankruptcy, guardianship and family law.”
He is married and has two sons and two grandsons.
