All about the kids
The Alley Cat Restaurant at The Alley at South Shore looked much like a toy store Dec. 10 during the 12th annual South Shore Toys for Tots campaign wrap-up party.
More than 90 boxes of donated puzzles, Star Wars figures, Barbie dolls and the like were collected by area businesses and brought to the party for members of the Marines 4th Assault Amphibious Battalion to take to a Tampa Warehouse for redistribution. The trove also included a record 378 bikes and $11,000 in cash.
Through his annual effort called 52 Bikes or Bust, Robert Coon, of Ruskin, collected 301 of the bicycles; Real estate agents from Century 21 Beggins Enterprises donated 75.
The South Shore Toys for Tots campaign and wrap-up party is sponsored by Walter and Don Pearson, of Pearson Capital, and coordinated by their accounts manager Ann Hathaway. This was the fifth year The Alley hosted the party.
