Anna Jane Connell
Anna Jane Connell, age 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016. Her oldest daughter Mary sat by her side, holding her hand, as she quietly entered through heaven’s gate and into the arms of her love, James Connell. Anna and Jim were married on Sept. 30, 1973. They spent 40 years together cruising the oceans and traveling the world by train. They are together again.
For the past few years, Anna battled courageously with Alzheimer’s disease. While she struggled with memories, she never lost her strong spirit or sense of humor. Her family was a constant in her care. During her last years she was lovingly cared for by her daughter Mary and son-in-law Marty, for whom the family is eternally thankful. Anna was born in New London, Connecticut on March 13, 1931. She attended Hartford School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1953. Nursing was her life — and her career was one of caring for others during their most desperate and challenging times.
She supervised the emergency room staff at Windham Community Memorial Hospital for many years. Her life’s work touched the lives of many nurses, doctors, and patients within the community. Anna led by example and through this, she taught her children to be strong and resilient. She was a loving mother and nauni. She retired with Jim and moved to Sun City Center, Florida in 1997 where she enjoyed lapidary, the Italian-American Club and more travel.
Anna is survived by her five children, Leonard Lacey, Peter Connell, Mary Connell Graham, Maureen Connell D’Annibale and Nancy Connell, as well as her grandchildren, Samantha Graham, Peter M. Connell, Kristopher Connell, James Lacey, Jeremy Lacey and Jaime Sweeney. She is also survived by her son-in-laws Marty Graham and John D’Annibale and daughter-in-laws Susan Lacey and Valerie Connell.
The family would like to extend gratitude and thanks to the staff at Inspired Living and to our very special aids, Maria, Gloria, and Valerie, who lovingly cared for our mom for the past year.
The family will have a service honoring Anna’s life on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at noon at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Willimantic, Connecticut.
Arrangements entrusted to National Cremation & Burial Society, 308. E. College Ave. Ruskin, FL 33570, 813-645-3231.
