On U.S. 41: A new home for an old favorite and a car lot of dreams
By MITCH TRAPHAGEN
On a September day in 2011, it seemed as though most people in South Hillsborough were hunkered down in their homes waiting for the cooler weather of autumn. The crowds were modest at the ever-popular Fish House on Shell Point Road and a new place, The Dog House and More, had recently opened further up the road. On Sept. 29 of that year, The Observer News ran a feature about dining out on Shell Point Road, covering both the Fish House and the Dog House and More, with a special mention of the latter’s lobster rolls.
Everything changed on the night the newspaper landed in driveways as people appeared to find a new reason to go out. At both establishments, cars with hungry customers streamed in, leaving the side of the road as the only available parking. Both sites had people directing traffic.
It’s been five years and both restaurants with outdoor seating have become much-loved establishments.
The Dog House and More has since left its original property on Shell Point Road and moved to 106 U.S. 41 N., across from Commongood Park.
The Dog House and More owners, Lisa Csiki and Scott Curtis, re-opened last month and immediately continued their monthly classic car show.
The Dog House and More is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. The Cool Car Cruise In is held on the first Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
