The Sun City Center Charitable Foundation just announced two new programs that President Walt Cawein said are designed to enrich the lives of current and future SCC residents and to maintain the attractiveness of Sun City Center.
The SCC Angel Program is focusing on local homeowners who don’t have the financial wherewithal or are not physically able to take care of their properties that have fallen or are falling into disarray. The program’s objectives, in addition to receiving cash donations, is to obtain volunteer services from businesses, clubs, individuals and organizations that are willing and capable of providing professional and charitable services at no cost to the resident. Examples are lawn/tree maintenance, roof cleaning, sidewalk washing, and limited repair/painting of structures.
The Foundation’s second new program — SCC Charitable Legacy Society — is designed to recognize individuals, clubs, businesses and organizations that contribute to the Foundation or have designated donations in their estate plans. Membership gives donors the opportunity to enjoy the company of others who, like themselves, care about leaving a financial legacy that will be used to protect and strengthen the community that has been so important in shaping their retirement lifestyle. One becomes a member by contributing to existing Legacy funds within the Foundation or by creating their own legacy fund that supports areas of interest special and unique to them.
The SCC Charitable Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization created last year to create public awareness, develop resources and support initiatives that address this community’s needs. Cawein said that the Foundation’s directors, collectively, have more than 150 years of living experience in SCC, and over 60 years of experience managing 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations.
“We have several programs now and many ideas on how to improve our community and resident lifestyle,” he said, “and more importantly, we are willing to work toward implementing those ideas. But to be successful, we need the community’s financial support. From my experience, our residents, clubs, organizations and businesses have always been willing to help. We are excited about this opportunity to reflect on our past, assess the present, and envision future possibilities.”
Steve Overton, vice president, senior portfolio manager and financial advisor of the Overton & Englund Group at Morgan Stanley, is the newest member of the board of directors of Sun City Center Charitable Foundation Inc. He joined the board in March. Also serving as directors are: Walt Cawein, president; Ed Barnes, vice president; Paul Wheat, secretary; Sam Sudman, treasurer; and Sue Batt, George Martin, Cliff Oldham and Dallas Tuthill.
Foundation donors have several options. Gifts may be designated for a specific organization, area of interest or for the general benefit of SCC. Gifts can provide a lasting legacy in their name, in their memory or to honor their family or other loved ones. Donors can also remain anonymous.
