Helen Estelle James
Helen Estelle James (Wilcutt) passed away at 9 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016.
Her survivors are: husband Edmund W. “Dutch” James of Sun City Center, Fla.; son Scott A. James of Sarasota, Fla.; grandsons Sgt. 1st Class Adam James of Columbus, Ga., and Daniel S. James of Chicago; granddaughters Emily E. Tillman (James) of Dewitt, Mich., and Megan James of Colorado; and great-grandsons Tyler Tillman, Oliver Tillman and Aaron Tillman, sons of Joel and Emily Tillman.
She was preceded in death by son Mark D. James; father Charles Wilcutt; mother Clara Wilcutt; sister Midge Ostheim (Wilcutt); and brother Larry Wilcutt.
She was born in Culman, Ala., and married “Dutch” in 1951. They lived in Crown Point, Ind.,for 57 years, where she raised a great family, owned and operated Colonial Beauty Shop and Auntie Helen’s Antiques.
In July 2000, Helen and her husband moved to Sun City Center, where she had many friends who will miss her. She was a member of the Sun City Center Woman’s Club.
Helen and Dutch were married 64 wonderful years.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Sun City Center at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 12. A light lunch will be served following the service.
Harry T. Powers Jr.
Harry T. Powers Jr. “Bud,” 95, of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away December 3, 2015. Born in New London, Conn., Bud was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Glenna E. Powers.
Captain Harry T. Powers Jr. proudly served his country for 30 years in the U.S. Navy Submarine Forces – Navy Seals. He was decorated with numerous awards and medals, including the U.S. Navy Silver Star for his service during the Normandy invasion in France. He commanded several submarines during his naval career, and was an aide to Adm. H. Rickover. He held degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Physics. Following his retirement, he was employed by Combustion Engineering and General Electric Company to refuel their nuclear power plants in various ports of the globe.
He is survived by stepson Michael E. Farnola Jr. and stepdaughter Melanie A. Vandal, including family in Connecticut and grandchildren in Massachuesetts, Maine, Vancouver, Canada, and Florida, and great- grandchildren in Maine and Florida.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center, Fla.
Interment with Military Honors will take place at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla .
