The 2016 24th annual Apollo Beach Manatee Festival of the Arts will take place March 12 and 13 at E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin, with artist applications being accepted and processed now.  The Apollo Beach Manatee Festival of the Arts is an innovative showcase of fine arts and crafts that draws talent from all across the country.

This year, for the first time, the festival will be a collaboration between the SouthShore Chamber of Commerce and the SouthShore Arts Council.  Together they hope to bring new life and a higher level of excellence to the show, with artist selections to be juried by the SouthShore Arts Council.

There is a new online application process for artists as well, which is currently available at www.southshorechamberofcommerce.org/pages/EventApplications.

Media categories include ceramics, fibers, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, wood, drawing, digital art, graphics, and metalwork. The deadline for entering artwork in the show is February 19.

Last year’s Manatee Festival of the Arts was well attended, with a total of $12,000 distributed in award money.  Visual art was featured, along with food vendors and a Children’s Creativity Center for the little ones.

A variety of musical artists performed on stage, including Tampa musicians Betty Fox, Wendy Rich and Victoria Ginty.  Visitors enjoyed the opportunity to meet and interact with artists and to purchase works directly from  their creators.

The SouthShore Chamber of Commerce’s dedication to excellence in selecting quality artists each year has resulted in the development of a well-respected annual festival that is one of the finest in the Tampa Bay area.

This year’s prizes will include a $2,000 award for Best of Show, a $1,000 TECO Energy Award of Excellence, a $700 Award of Distinction,  plus multiple cash Awards of Merit and Honor and $7,000 in Patrons Purchase Awards.

Mixed media winner at last year’s Manatee Festival of the Arts was Rolly Ray Reel.
