Ruskin’s Firehouse Cultural Center offers six weeks of summer camp, designed for ages 8-10 and 11-15, that will provide opportunities for youngsters to imagine, explore and discover.
Week 1:
Acting for Stage & Screen
June 22 – June 26
Campers will refine their star quality as they learn acting techniques for theater and film. They will develop self-confidence while working on scenes to be performed live before an audience and recorded on film. Class includes joint scene work, improvisation and relaxation exercises.
Week 2:
Musical Theater
June 29 – July 3
Campers will sparkle like stars as they explore a range of acting and Broadway musical theater performance techniques while developing a stage presence through theater games, improvisation, costume play and storytelling. Campers sharpen acting and vocal skills as they prepare for a “stage debut” before family and friends.
Week 3:
Robotics & Coding
July 6 – July 10
Campers work in small teams using Lego Mindstorms to create and program a robot as they learn simple digital programming to command tasks. Assemble circuits and learn simple coding (programming) to make a tiny computer, an “Arduino Micro Controller,” do things with light and sound. Design and make your own fun creation. Make them move and do things — like robots!
Week 4:
Drawing, Painting
July 13 – July 17
Each drawing, painting or print starts with a line, a mark. Add a bit of color, and campers make their mark with a creative and imaginative variety of unique drawing, painting and printmaking activities.
Week 5:
3D Art & The Art of Illusion
July 20 – July 24
Campers discover the secrets of illusion and trompe l’oeil as they learn the visual tricks to make imaginations run wild! Create artworks, including 3D Chalk Art on pavement, that fool the eye using perspective and reverse perspective.
Week 6:
Cartooning & Animation
August 3 – August 7
Campers bring their favorite characters to life and create their own characters as they develop basic cartooning, animation and storytelling skills. Campers will create a comic strip and an animation movie.
