David Eugene Carlo
David Eugene Carlo passed away suddenly on December 10, 2014, as a result of injuries from a fatal car accident. He was 44 years old, born in Orlando in 1971. He went to Eisenhower Middle School.
He made Wimauma and Apollo Beach his residence, and worked as a tile layer.
He is survived by his mother Jeanne Barajas; stepfather Robert Spangenberg; sisters Sonia Fontanez (Ponce) and Tammy Carlo (Renfroe); nephews Aaron Parmer and Nathaniel Munos; niece Ashley Parmer (Hernandez); and great-aunts Cheryl Chipman and Shirley Vincent of Michigan. He was preceded in death by sisters Tiffany Barajas Tucker and Carrie Carlo.
No service is planned. Rest in peace, li’l brother.
Betty L. Norvell – Eddy
Betty L. Norvell – Eddy went on to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at the Health Center of Plant City in Plant City, Fla. Betty was born November 25, 1925, in Tuscola, Ill., and passed at the age of 89. Her parents were Arthur and Louise Hill, and she grew up in Tuscola, where she graduated high school and college.
She was married to and preceded in death by John H. Norvell Sr., a career military officer and a retired Army Lt. Colonel with a marriage of 42 years. She was also preceded in death by Kenyon Eddy, a career Navy serviceman, to whom she was married for 10 years. She is survived by sons Robert C. Norvell Sr. (Lori) and John Norvell Jr. (Michelle); stepdaughter Stephanie Burnakus; brothers Dean and Gene Hill; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a piano teacher and played organ and piano for many churches for the last 50 years.
Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Trinity Baptist Church, 702 W. Del Webb Blvd. in Sun City Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Trinity Baptist Church of Sun City Center.
James A. Jurgens
James A. “Jim” Jurgens, 87, passed away after a long illness on December 4, 2014, at his home in Sun City Center, Fla., with family at his side. Born September 12, 1927, in Pennsauken, N.J., he served in World War II and then had a long career in business, retiring in 1991 from Jim Walter Corporation as Assistant Vice President – Budget and Planning.
A member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Jim also was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Past Patron of the Eastern Star. He was predeceased by parents John William Jurgens and Sarah Jurgens (neé Swarz); brother John William Jurgens; sister Esther Staats; and daughter Bethanne Pearce.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Jurgens; son J.A. Jurgens; grandchildren Michael Jurgens, Amanda Dyer and Erica Jurgens; brother Paul Jurgens; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sun City Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sun City Center. Curtis Keeler
Curtis Keeler, 90, departed this earth on December 14, 2014, to be with his family and friends in heaven. He was born and raised in Bethany, Conn., and had a keen interest in flying. He was permitted to fly solo for the first time on his 16th birthday.
Curt entered service during World War II as a teenager, with the sole purpose of flying the P-40 Warhawk. This was accomplished at Aloe Field in Victoria, Texas, immediately following his commissioning as a 2nd lieutenant and the award of his Wings on August 4, 1944.
Curt subsequently became a P-51 Mustang pilot and flew this aircraft in both the Pacific Theater and the Korean War. He later served as Commanding Officer of Air Defense Installations for eight years in Spain and St. Albans, Vt., where he retired on May 31, 1965.
Curt married his wife Pat in Chicago on Jan. 5, 1949. They had four children: Jill was born at Keesler Field in Biloxi, Miss.; Craig at Tyndall AFB, Panama City, Fla.; Jeffrey in Barcelona, Spain; and Scott in St. Albans.
In January 1966 Curt joined United Airlines and secured his Flight Engineer certificate on the DC-8 aircraft. He subsequently was hired for the pilot-training department for Eastern Airlines in Miami, Fla. He secured his ATP Ratings (Captain) in both the DC-8 and the DC-9 during his tenure with Eastern.
After retiring from Eastern in 1987, Pat and Curt chose to live the leisure life in Sun City Center, Fla., where they both became very active in volunteering for many community services. Curt was active with South Bay Hospital, the fitness center, the Security Patrol, the Men’s Club, the Military Officers Association of America and more.
He will be joining his loving wife Pat in heaven, where they can be reunited again for eternity.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave. East in Ellenton, Fla.
William F. Rieger
William F. Rieger, 83, of Sun City Center, Fla., went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2014. He was born in Royersford, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy H. Rieger; daughter Sharon R. Winterton, wife of Scott M. Winterton, New Port Richey, Fla.; grandson Stephen, Palm Harbor, Fla.; and granddaughter Sarah of New Port Richey. He is also survived by sisters Dorothy Moorehead and Hazel Giera of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sun City Center; a member of American Legion Post 246; a member of DAV, Chapter 110; and VFW 7155.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Valley Forge Road, Sun City Center, FL 33573.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, in the Ballroom of Aston Gardens, 1311 Aston Gardens Court in Sun City Center. Pastor David Allman will officiate.
