Paul Anthony Diel
Paul Anthony Diel, 80, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at his home in Sun City Center, Florida.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on December 12, 1933, he was a deeply loved and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Following his graduation from North Catholic High School in 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and was a staff sergeant and an electrical engineer at the time of his discharge in 1961.
Paul was married to Elsie Fitzsimmons Diel in 1957 and together they raised three children. Following his military discharge, he returned to his family’s hometown of Pittsburgh, where he was hired by Pitney Bowes as an engineer. It was during his 33 years working for Pitney Bowes that he moved his family to Fairfield, Conn. Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Sun City Center, where they have lived for 16 years. Continuing a long and proud family tradition, he was a member of the American Legion for 50-plus years.
Paul is survived by wife Elsie; children Kathy Nutley, Scott Diel and Beth Jennings; grandchildren Mark Gannon, Mike Gannon, Nicole Maucher and Amanda Jennings; and great-grandchildren Jax Gannon and Hunter Gannon.
Paul’s first love was always his wife and family, with whom he shared unconditional love, pride and his wonderful sense of humor. There are no words for how deeply he is missed.
Funeral Mass with Military Honors was November 17, 2014, at Prince of Peace Church in Sun City Center. Please consider sending a donation to the Disabled American Veterans foundation in lieu of flowers. Joseph Huckestein
Joseph Huckestein, 90, of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014.
The battles are over for my friend Joe Huckestein, a 90-year-old Marine. Joe volunteered at 17 years of age for the Marine Corps and fought his way through the landings on four islands in the Pacific. He received four service stars, a Presidential Citation, a Navy Citation and numerous other awards, culminating in the Bronze Star for conspicuous bravery under fire and saving the lives of fellow squad members.
My prayers and thoughts are with his longtime partner Diana Ackland and his loving family. Semper Fi!
In March, I had the great privilege and honor of serving as Master of Ceremonies for Joe’s Life Celebration and birthday. The presentation included the ceremonial presentation of the colors, a flag-folding and, of course, the traditional birthday cake that looked like a forest fire. BTW, Joe could still wear his original uniform. Sharing moments like this are one of the greatest benefits I have received from public speaking. I consider it an honor to preside over memorial services for my fallen comrades — but to be a part of a program like that one, truly a celebration of life, is my favorite activity.
It would be special if you are reading this, for you to say a final word of thanks to this man who served his country well and honor this patriot as a way of thanking all vets.
He is survived by his significant other of 19 years, Diana Ackland; daughter Sandra L. Ellwood; son Joseph M. Huckestein; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Gilbert Huckestein; and sister Marlyn B. On Diana’s side Joe is survived by son-in-law Neal Kelly (Sandi); and sisters Mary Ware and Dolores Kelley.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements by Zipperer’s Funeral Home.

In Loving Memory
Gil Bennett
11/24/33 – 11/15/13
The moment that you died
our hearts were torn in two,
one side filled with heartache,
the other died with you.
We often lay awake at night,
when the world is fast asleep, and
take a walk down memory lane,
with tears upon our cheeks.
Remembering you is easy,
we do it everyday,
but missing you is heartache
that never goes away.
We hold you tightly within our hearts
and there you will remain,
until the joyous day arrives,
that we will be together again.
We miss you.
Love, Keavin, Sherell, Ron, Kim, Kelly, Lori, Ryan and Krisi
A big thank you
to all our friends
for the outpouring of love,
food, flowers and kind wishes
in the recent tragic loss
of our son, Michael.
With gratitude,
Brenda and Ron Hartman
