Manuela Tscheu ran a restaurant in Germany in 1999 but moved to Florida from Berlin in 2005 and brought her culinary talent with her, opening the Old Castle Restaurant and Tavern in Sun City Center almost as soon as she arrived.
Her husband, Stuart Stubbins, met her when he became a regular customer.
“I had lived in Germany in the mid-1970s when my dad was in the service,” Stubbins said. “I loved the food, and when the restaurant opened, I started going in and, let’s just say it went from there.”
Authentic German food and drinks are served there on a regular basis. But in real German fashion, Oktoberfest brings extra-special treats.
For the third year, the restaurant will have an Oktoberfest celebration, Friday through Sunday, Oct. 3, 4 and 5, with five different accordion players and dancing.
“Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. there will be authentic German dancers from The Villages in Ocala,” Stubbins said.
Others will also be dressed in traditional German attire.
There will be a tent outside in the parking lot with lots of food, German beer and wines.
“There will also be prize drawings every hour,” he added.
The restaurant has both a website and a Facebook page. The website is at www.oldcastlerestaurant.com, and the Facebook page is under the restaurant name, Stubbins said.
“We even have the menu on the Facebook page,” he said.
The Old Castle Restaurant and Tavern is at 3830 Sun City Center Blvd., which is also known as S.R. 674.
