The newest school in the South Shore area, J. Vince Thompson Elementary in Ruskin, opened to much fanfare on Tuesday. The school is touted as the first energy-efficient complex in the district. The efficiency moniker was carried through every member of the Trailblazers team as they greeted hundreds of new students and parents without a hitch.
Principal Milady Astacio is thrilled to be at the helm of this innovative, energy-efficient school.
School workers put arm bands on students as they exit the buses. Each was also given a high five and a hearty welcome to school.
Kevin Dozier, left, was all smiles about entering third grade. He was escorted by his dad, Randy Dozier, and little brother Damian.
