Despite the unrelenting heat and humidity of late, the season is still too young to be referred to as “the dog days of summer.” These are, perhaps, the “puppy days of summer.”
And speaking of puppies, they were the chosen beneficiaries of Jen’s Markets, held twice monthly at Waterset Landing in Apollo Beach. During July, the markets collected donations for Critter Mama Rescue, a Florida nonprofit animal rescue run by Robin Roberts of Ruskin.
Appropriately, for the puppy days of summer, visitors to Sunday’s market had the opportunity to meet Roberts, along with Hazel, a remarkably soft and gentle puppy that Roberts had rescued from the streets.
Visitors were also greeted by vendors offering everything from fresh, local vegetables and meats to handmade jewelry. Entertainment was provided by talented Ruskin musician John O’Berg (www.facebook.com/JohnnyOMusic).
