Dear Editor,
Before I left SCC to go on [a recent] trip, I and Walt Cawein (former CA president) went to the office of the SCC Emergency Squad (27 March 2014) and proposed a program for SCC members embodying the lately simplified CPR (only chest pumping is necessary, according to the American Heart Assn.).
The new Chief nearly dozed off during the presentation, so he was surely not interested, and the former Chief, who was also present, may not have been too interested either; I don’t really know.
In any case, I have heard from no one and apparently nothing has come of said proposal, despite that up to $1,000 was offered to help get the program off the ground.
[I] even suggested … a possible way that this might be accomplished (through a system in the Men’s Club that the undersigned designed and started as President of the Club, in the mid-1990s, and which continues to this day — namely, over 20 mini-Men’s Club divisions throughout SCC).
So, this is to formally rescind the offer of $1,000 [sic] dollars. This money will then perhaps be available for other projects here in SCC or in South County — either ongoing or planned.

Dear Editor,
My appreciation and gratitude to those golf cart helpers who offered their concern, advice and assistance [June 4], when I had a mishap on the golf-cart path near the post office.
To Patrick and his assistant, who so carefully, cautiously and successfully put my cart in place without damage and in full running condition to drive home: You all are beyond generous and caring. True Sun City spirit.

Dear Editor,
I have delayed writing this letter much too long. Now that the construction has begun on all of our improvement projects, I ask where is the hurricane shelter for Sun City Center?
It certainly is nice that you have planned a little snack bar and various new rooms for the many club and special interest groups in our town, but what about all the other permanent residents of our little corner of the world?
The hurricane season is here again, as it comes every year. The “snow birds” have boarded their homes and gone North, but we are still here. We board our homes and stay here because we have no where [sic] else to go. I believe a hurricane shelter should have been number one on our wish list. I believe it is not too late to make some adjustments in our plans. The high powered and expensive architects and survey people should have suggested this ages ago. I am sure something must be done immediately. … How much longer must we wait to feel safe in our little place in the sun?
I am sure some of the new rooms, etc., could be shared by several clubs and organizations as they have in the past. Must they stay empty? I am convinced we must do something about a proper shelter now before God decides he will not wait for us to do for ourselves, as well we should. What is the problem?
I know money is always a problem. We can raise it! I know it would be like pulling teeth, but we can do it. Lets [sic] ask the Sun City residents now!
