Riverview resident David Baker was walking his dogs on Riverlachen Way when he looked up into a neighbor’s tree and saw the living symbol of America: a Bald Eagle, the national bird. Bald Eagles were once nearly eradicated in the United States but have since made an astounding recovery. The majestic birds were removed from the endangered species list in 2007. Bald Eagles may now be found in all of the lower 48 states and Alaska and are frequently seen in Florida. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is responsible for the management of the birds in the Sunshine State and offers a nest locator website for those interested in seeing them.
