SUN CITY CENTER — The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 75 from Ruskin held their annual change of watch ceremony on Jan. 21 in Sun City Center. The 2011 Flotilla Commander, Guy Mandigo, stepped down and welcomed Oscar Kramer as the new Flotilla Commander and Ray Stewart as the Vice Flotilla Commander.

Several members of the flotilla were recognized with awards. Flotilla members Joseph Parrish, Mary Yedynak, and Vince Yedynak were presented with certificates of appreciation. Parrish and his wife Alma Parrish were presented with the Flotilla Commander’s Awards.

US Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 7 Commander J. Michael Shea was on hand to administer the oath of office to the 2012 flotilla staff officers and to provide the keynote speech for the event.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary works hand in hand with the US Coast Guard to not only promote boater safety but to assist in homeland security functions. The Ruskin flotilla is currently working with new USCG officers-in-training for security during the Republican National Convention to be held in Tampa in August. The auxiliary also provides vessel safety checks.

Flotilla 75 supports USCG Station St. Petersburg in safety patrols and in search and rescue operations. The flotilla meets the second Wednesday of every month at the Ruskin Senior Center at 901 6th Street SE.
