My wife and I were honored to speak at the monthly meeting of the Hearing Loss Association of America, Sun City Center Chapter last week. The topic of our talk was on hearing loss as a couple. As someone with a severe hearing-impairment, I frequently rely on Michelle to hear the world.
It turned out that I’m not alone — as evidenced by the couples in attendance living under similar circumstances.
Approximately 28 million Americans suffer from some form of hearing loss and it is not just an affliction for older people — the Centers for Disease Control estimates that nearly 15 percent of all children ages 6 to 19 may suffer from some form of hearing loss in one or both ears.
