RUSKIN — Celebrate the beginning of autumn at Camp Bayou this weekend with some great food and music, along with the incomparable environment the outdoor learning center has to offer. On Saturday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Ruskin’s Camp Bayou will hold their second annual Beef ’n Bones at the Bayou, a fundraiser for the 501c3 non-profit nature conservancy.
The daylong event will feature music by The Front Porch Pickers, performing at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., with an assortment of guitars, banjos, mandolins, fiddles, washtub bass and the occasional spoon and washboard. Kayaks are available for rent at the center’s new launch site on the Little Manatee River, or visitors are free to bring their own. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be served by Wild Dogs, and center volunteers will be on hand for water safety and fishing classes, as well as with information about the center’s programs, including their “Sponsor a Gopher Tortoise” program. Additionally, there will be a silent auction and art sale running from noon to 7 p.m.
As the sun sets, things only pick up for the event with Zebron & James taking the stage from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dinner will be ribs, chicken and sides along with beverages, including select beers and wines.
Tickets are available online or at the gate. Individual tickets are $5 with a group gate pass for four people available for $15. Children under six are admitted at no charge.
