Jacob M. Lang
Jacob M. Lang, 95, of Sun City Center, Florida passed away April 16, 2011.
He was born in Ramsey, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Muriel V. Lang and grandson Mark Christopher Blyth. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Charlie Blyth of Sun City Center, daughter and son-in-law Greer and Norman Johnson of Kentucky, and grandson Eric M. Blyth currently serving in the U.S. Navy. Private burial arrangements are being handled by Zipperer’s Funeral Home in Ruskin, Florida. Barbara Schuerch Smith
Barbara Schuerch Smith, 83, of Hanover, N.H. and Sun City Center, FL died on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011. She was married to Dr. Robert C. Smith for 53 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was deeply loved by many.
She received her B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy from Milwaukee Downer College and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Women’s Medical Specialist Corps of the U.S. Army. Her assignments were at Walter Reed and Fitzsimmons Army Hospitals. Later she worked for Dr. Howard Rusk in New York City at the Rehabilitation Center. He was instrumental in forming the American Korean Foundation. Barbara was chosen to be a member of the rehabilitation team to work with the Korean people in 1953. Upon her return she worked in neuropsychiatry for several years. As director of the O.T. Department at Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute, she met with chaplains to set up services for the patients. That is when she met her husband Dr. Robert C. Smith. Later she received her Master’s Degree in Special Education from Trenton State College. She worked in the Neshaminy School District in Pennsylvania.
While raising a family, they lived in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. They lived for twenty six years in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Barbara served for more than 25 years as a devoted Girl Scout leader including a service unit director. She was awarded the Girl Scout “Thanks” award, an honor that recognizes truly outstanding volunteer efforts.
She is survived by her husband Dr. Robert C. Smith, four grown children and six grandchildren. They are Randolph Arthur of Falls Church, VA; Eva Wendell Behrens and her husband Andrew of South Strafford, VT; Carl William Smith and wife Laura of Riverdale, NY; Barbara Ann Masteller and husband Erin of South Strafford, VT. Her grandchildren are Emma and Rebecca Behrens, Emily and Eliza Masteller, and Benjamin and Hannah Smith.

George Jewett Cook
George Jewett Cook, 96 of Sun City Center, passed away on April 22, 2011. Born in Bardwell, KY, on June 9, 1914, Jewett was a retired owner-operator of the Hoffman Seed House, Hoffman, IL. Jewett was a World War 2 U.S. Army Veteran receiving a Purple Heart for wounds received, Silver Star and Bronze Star, Jewett is the last Charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sun City Center. Jewett is preceded in death by his wife Irene Cook (1995), parents, and brothers. Survivors include his sons Stephen (Patricia) Cook, of Brandon; Michael (Dee Ann) Cook of Brandon; Donald (Beverly) Cook of Laurel, Maryland and Thomas (Kimberly) Cook of Brandon, and 3 sisters. Jewett is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, 11:00 AM, at Sun City Center Funeral Home, Sun City Center, Fla, and family did receive friends from 10:00 AM to hour of service. Margaret Mary Peters
Margaret Mary Peters, 81 of Ruskin, Fl., passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at her residence with her loving family at her side. Born in Detroit, Michigan on March 12, 1930, Margaret was a retired legal secretary, and lived in the Bahamas for 10 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Margaret participated in many local Dance Clubs and won many trophies in Ballroom Dancing. She volunteered at many clubs in Ruskin and Sun City Center. Survivors include her 2 daughters, Susan Gwynneth (Paul) Vance of Owensboro, KY., and Lesley Anne Peters of Ruskin, son, David Stewart (Julie) Peters of California, 4 grandchildren Phillip and Gwendolyn Vance, Kirsti and Chelsea Peters, a brother Robert MacKeigan and sister Eunice Murray.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sun City Center.
Margaret P. Smith
Margaret P. Smith, long time resident of Sun City Center, died March 10, 2011 of complications from Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her sister Mary Day, 4 of her 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Margaret was born in Thief River Falls, MN on August 1, 1922. She attended St. Theresa’s College in Winona, MN where she met and married Earl Dale Smith. Margaret’s family enjoyed the benefits of her extraordinary culinary skills and seamstress skills.
Margaret loved to read and was a lifelong learner. She enjoyed spending time with friends, her book club, and her bridge club. Margaret was a devote Catholic and during her retirement years she was able to devote more and more of her time volunteering at the Prince of Peace church. Her funeral mass will be April 30, 2011 at 11 am at Prince of Peace Church in Sun City Center. Arrangements are by Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Drive, Sun City Center, Fla 33573.
