HICKEY, Frances Leone
Frances Leona Hickey 94, died Sunday February 20th, 2011 at Life Path Hospice, Sun City Center, FL.
She was born in Rock Island, IL on March 3rd, 1916 to Ferdinand and Bertha Nachbaur Vogele. She was a life long resident of Rock Island until she moved to Sun City Center, FL in 2004 to be close to her son, Michael.
She attended the Ville de Chantal for elementary and high school for 11 years. The Villa was a private boarding school in Rock Island where young girls learned to become young ladies. She attended Rock Island High School her senior year and graduated from there, class of 1934.
On October 18th, 1941 she married Frances L. Hickey who passed away in 2000. They were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island and Frannie was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
For many years Frannie worked at the Rock Island Bank and Trust Company in downtown Rock Island. She enjoyed traveling on annual vacations which were generally to New England, and frequently included New York, Chicago and Lake Geneva, WI. After her retirement from the Rock Island Bank she and her husband went to Europe around 12 times. There travels to Europe always included Italy, where her husband was stationed during World War II.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Mary Anastasia Hickey and six siblings, Celia Keyport of Kerrick MN, Marie Thomas, Anna, Robert, and Joseph Vogele all of Rock Island IL and Charles Vogele of Moline IL.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Renata Hickey of Apollo Beach FL; 2 grandsons, Sean Hickey of Miami FL and Shane Hickey of Osceola IN and 3 grandchildren, Zacree Hickey of Seminole FL, Sarah Hickey of Miami FL and Caylynn Hickey of Osceola IN.
A memorial service will be conducted at her residence, Sun Towers, in Sun City Center, FL at 10:00 am on Thursday February 24, 2011. A memorial service will also be conducted at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery, the latter half of September, 2011. Specifics to follow.
