RUSKIN — A portion of I-75 in Southern Hillsborough and Northern Manatee counties was closed early Tuesday morning due to near zero visibility caused by dense fog and smoke from a brush fire. The interstate was closed from Exit 240 at College Avenue in Ruskin to Exit 229 at Moccasin Wallow Road in Manatee County.
The fire was caused by a controlled burn that had gone beyond the planned burn area at Little Manatee River State Park. The fire was not considered a threat to residential areas and was contained by early Tuesday morning but heavy smoke, coupled with fog, lingered over South Hillsborough, particularly in Greater Sun City Center.
