Marianne Wexler is KP Artist of the Month
Marianne Wexler is the Kings Point Art League Artist of the Month for May. Her paintings will be on display in the Art Studio of the Kings Point North Clubhouse through June 7.
Born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y., Wexler taught for the New York City Board of Education for 33 years, teaching a variety of grades at the elementary school level. She lived in Staten Island with her husband Richard and two children until 2008.
Wexler retired in 2003, and she and Richard purchased a condo in Kings Point in 2004. They were snowbirds until 2008, when Richard retired, also from the NYC Board of Education.
As a child, Wexler was always drawing and doodling, but she became seriously interested in art in 2000, when she went on a teaching sabbatical. She took classes from local Staten Island artists and from Terry Madden before coming to Sun City Center. Wexler has taken classes from Diane Simon, Tom Haverfield, and other artists affiliated with the Manatee Art Center and Keeton’s Art Supply.
Her favorite medium is watercolor, but she also likes to do pen and ink in the form of Zentangle. She has entered several of the local art shows and won a number of ribbons. Wexler particularly likes to paint pictures of buildings with lots of shadows and angles, as well as zebras.
In addition to painting, Wexler belongs to the Sun City Photo Club, where she has also won awards. She and Richard traveled extensively from 2008 until 2012, and she has recorded their trips in scrapbooks. She continues to enjoy all the artistic activities that Kings Point offers.
