With the temperatures forecast to be in the high 70s and low 80s in South Hillsborough, this is the weekend to break out the fishing poles, running shoes and golf clubs for a great cause. The third annual Hook ’n Sink Golf and Fishing Tournament kicks off at Little Harbor Resort and Club Renaissance this weekend to benefit the Mary and Martha House.

The benefit begins at Little Harbor Resort on Friday night with a Captain’s Meeting and pre-tournament party for the participants of all events, beginning at 7 p.m. Food, music, beverages, socializing and one of the best sunset views on Tampa Bay will be available.

The fishing tournament begins with check-in at 7 a.m. on Saturday from the marina at Little Harbor.  Fees for the event are $50 per person and $25 for children under the age of 12.  Fishing charters are available, with Ana Banana and Ladyfish Charters as sponsors.  The $150 charters must be reserved in advance. The tournament starts with a continental breakfast, goodie bags and hats and ends with post-tournament awards, food and music.

The first place fishing team will take home a $1000 prize, with $500 for second place and $250 for third place.  The children’s division will also have first, second and third place prizes.

Also on Saturday, with check-in beginning at 7 a.m., the 5K run / walk will be taking off from Little Harbor.  The fee is $25 per person in advance or $30 per person during the Captain’s party or at check-in.  There will be awards for the top three male and female participants in various age groups.

On Sunday, the event moves to Sun City Center and Club Renaissance on South Pebble Beach Blvd for the benefit golf tournament.  Check-in begins at 11 a.m with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.  The cost is $75 per person or $300 per foursome.  The registration fee includes green fees, a golf cart, hors d’oeuvres and tournament prizes.

The Mary and Martha House is a Ruskin-based emergency and transitional shelter for homeless and abused women and their children.  In addition to their core mission of providing a safe haven to women and children in danger and in need, the Mary and Martha House also offers a wide variety of educational and job-assistance services.  The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization depends entirely upon the generosity of area businesses and organizations.  It is the only such shelter in South Hillsborough.
