Observer News: Community garage sale for boy wounded on New Years Eve a success Community garage sale for boy wounded on New Years Eve a success ================================================================================ Mitch_Traphagen on 02/02/2012 13:13:00 A community garage sale held last week to benefit Diego Duran, the boy wounded by ‘celebratory’ gunfire on New Years Eve was a success. According to organizer Bruce Marsh, “people would drop off $30 worth of stuff, buy $20 worth and say keep the change.” Event volunteers said that hundreds of people passed through the sale within the first few hours on Saturday, buying up nearly half of the donated goods available for sale. According to the latest updates from the Friends of Diego Duran Facebook page, Diego is continuing his long road to recovery and has successfully completed a major surgery and his doctors are hoping another, more complicated surgery may be avoided. Last week, he was able to walk down a hospital corridor with his father. The family thanks everyone in the community for the support they have received since the incident last month. The garage sale was held at the Firehouse Cultural Center in Ruskin.
