What a Night!

My expectations were realized! I am so happy that I attended my 40th high school class reunion.

The name tags were the greatest blessing. As I squinted to read them, my recognition came alive. As soon as I read the name I could see them clearly as time had stood still and we were back on Big Bend Road again.

I was not the only one. Each of us had a brief questioning moment before the smile came across our faces. Old stories came rushing into my mind, visions so real, I was surprised.

As the night passed along, the familiar gestures and phrases became more apparent. For brief moments I would step back just to “view” the scene and enjoy the look back on our lives.

There were some moments of sadness as we discovered the losses of our classmates over the years. Short sweet stories were brought to the surface and a reverent look came upon our faces. The reality of growing older and the understanding of the natural course that our lives take, at moments captured our serious thoughts.
But those times were brief, because there was so much time to catch up on. Fun, good stories, dancing and of course private times when we revealed our old romantic crushes. Sweet thoughts and warm embraces, hardy hand shakes, all this occurred as the evening wore down.

Promises of meetings in the future and glances of fondness captured the room. It was a night of lived clichés, one after another. What a night!!!

I only hope that everyone there had as wonderful a time as I did. The plan is in five years we will meet again. I am already looking with warm feelings for this time to come.

My “View From The Road” was a glorious trip down memory lane.
