Simple, Together Things

Last Saturday the weather was so beautiful. The perfect day for some cruising on my motorcycle. After some well-deserved attention to maintenance, I was ready to ride.

The light coolness that filled the air brought revitalization to my spirit. The many cold rides that I had taken throughout the winter months had dulled my excitement about riding. I find as the years pass, my enthusiasm for less than comfortable rides has diminished. The day was so nice and the highways seemed so open and inviting that all notions of discomfort were not even in my thoughts.

What started out at around 9 a.m. to be a modest ride in the country turned out to be an all day ride! Back to Hillsborough County, visiting some friends and family turned into part of my Saturday plan. It was also economical. If I try to be conservative with the speed, I can get nearly 45 miles to the gallon of gas.

Each time I go for a ride, I try to make some little detours off my normal path. This is becoming more difficult, since there are only so many ways you can go. I did travel down some roads that I had not been on for several years. Traveling east and west above Tampa, there are some nice roads. Country settings, small stores and sites of old Florida that I enjoy no matter how many times I travel that way.

With the price of gasoline and the ever-increasing direction it will surely go, adventure trips are far and few between for most of us. I remember as a child my father would take us all out for a weekend ride in the car. Adventures and time together as a family, stopping for ice cream or a drink was an added treat.

Hopefully those times will come back to us, but, our budgets now cannot afford what was once a common thing that a modest family could do.

Each time I write an article, I am reminded of things that my father and mother did to make our families lives so pleasant. Simple, together things, those were the best times.

Reminiscing, now I understand my parents so much more. You have to have something to look back on to truly enjoy life. I am so happy to be at this time in my life. My “View From The Road” can be seen through more experienced eyes.
