Saving Fuel

This weekend seemed very short. I road down to visit family and friends on my motorcycle. The weather was perfect for riding.

Friday after work I took care of some things I had to do, packed my stuff into the saddle bags and took off .

The ride wandered down from Mt. Dora to Haines City. I got on I-4 and noticed that the traffic was light for a Friday evening but I was not disappointed. I had been driving at slower speeds these days in the attempt to increase my fuel mileage. I could see a marked improvement, and as long as I stayed over to the right lane nobody seemed to mind. Actually I think traffic has slowed down some in the last few weeks.

It is amazing how habits improve as it affects your wallet.

Throughout the weekend I covered a great distance. Compared to my previous trip, I spent about one third as much on gasoline, and traveled substantially more miles. It looks like the motorcycle will be seeing a great more of the road, as I try to be economical.

I can’t drag as much stuff with me, but I did not find that to be an issue this last weekend.

I find that I am planning my trips more carefully now. All of us could do this, and make a big difference in the amount of gasoline we really need to consume.

The weather can be surprising in the next month, as the rain storms are more likely to appear when I am out and about. Rain gear is stowed in one of my saddle bags, and it only takes a moment to be suited up. The slight inconvenience is a small price to pay for the ability to still go all the places that are on my list.

We can all make small adjustments in our lives, and maybe we will develop a more conserving nature in our driving habits.

My “View From The Road” will take a more fuel saving twist in the weeks to come
