View From the Road
I am down in South Florida as I write this article. It is a beautiful Monday morning, the sky is clear and the temperature is in the low eighties. It appears that it will be a hot day.
I am picking up foliage plants from four nurseries that will fill a fifty-three foot refrigerated trailer. My first stop doesn’t want me until 11:00 AM and the other three will not be ready for me until after 2:00 PM. They all want to close at about 4:30PM so this makes for a hectic two and a half hours. Hurry up and wait, that is the game. Then there is the six hour drive back to the terminal.
The farmland in Homestead is all freshly planted with a variety of vegetables. The weather here puts everything in high gear, and from week to week the crops grow at an amazing rate.
The foliage nurseries have the same good fortune. At the rate that the trucks take the plants out, it is important that they have these optimum conditions. When I think of the number of plants that our company hauls out of the state it boggles my mind, and there are many more trucking companies doing the same thing.
Spring is coming to our northern neighbors, and they are ready for our plants to freshen up their homes and businesses. Well companies like the one I work for, are happy to bring the fresh beauty to them.
My day will soon shift into high gear, so as I prepare I will take these last few moments to savor the beauty of the farmland and beautiful weather.
Fields of vegetables and foliage fill my day with a wonderful “View From The Road.”
