View From the Road
The new year is in full swing now, and I am ready for it. Getting back to work after four days in a row off for Christmas was a little challenging, but with a little persistence I was back in action.
People were eager to see things back to normal, but who knows what normal is?
I was in luck, only short trips were on the schedule for the first few days. Next week the busy long days will be what we will all expect. Trips to Ft. Myers and Naples are on the lists of places to go.
My fellow workers have been gearing up for the next two weeks also. We all enjoy time off, but I think we are all ready to get back to a normal pace.
I most look forward to my trips down through the center of the state. Somehow I just feel comfortable with the highways running through the friendly little towns. The people seem to be my kind of folks. Country roads north, south, east or west all appeal to me, but I must admit central Florida is my favorite.
Wildlife sightings over the last twenty years and my many encounters with fine country folks might explain my feelings.
Florida is rich in fine folks and many sights to see. I am just fortunate to have a job that allows me to make a living and have fun too.
A recent trip to Lake Placid is a good example. It was a long ride with a few lonely country roads. A sighting of two alligators in a big ditch was great. They lay there sunning themselves, oblivious of the close path my truck took along the ditch. Then I delivered a big screen TV. The residents were so excited to receive their new TV. It made me feel like I was delivering the proceeds for the Florida Lottery.
Days like that are just what I like. That day made my “View From The Road” really special. I look for those days every week.
