View From the Road
I am writing this article just before Mother’s Day. My family is planning to gather on Mother’s Day to honor our mother who has been deceased for a number of years.
I am very happy that this was planned. Our mother still plays a tremendous role in all of our lives. I knew this, and suspected that my siblings shared the same feelings, so this Sunday will definitely substantiate that thought.
Anyone who reads my stories knows the strong feelings I have about my family. It is such a wonderful thing.
As you might guess, I had a wonderful Mom ( Nellie Morrow); most of us did. We sometimes take a long time in recognizing this and it is usually too late to tell them all that we feel, but I think they understood and do understand. After all they were young once and it doesn’t hurt, that we were their kids, and their love was unconditional.
I always write relatively short columns and if I was to write about all the great things about my Mom there would not be enough room. So I would like you to reflect back on all the things that were special about your Mom, and you will immediately understand about mine.
I do want to say this: she is still an amazing influence in all that I do and say. This is a good thing. The balance and the sensitivity that I hope I possess can be credited to the influence she had on me. So, if you like what I write, some of it is her coming out in my writing.
Not just on Mother’s Day, but every day, please be grateful for your Mom. My “View From The Road” would be not nearly as good without the influence of “Mom.”
