…Stimulus Checks With more than $1 million in tax rebate funds still unclaimed in Hillsborough County alone, South County residents are being encouraged to file federal income tax reports for 2007, even though they may not be obligated to do so. Their deadline is October 15, 2008. While many citizens whose incomes consist primarily of certain Social Security payments or whose earned incomes do not meet a particular threshold may not owe taxes or be required to complete federal income tax forms, these individuals must file to receive the economic stimulus checks they’re entitled to, noted Marcia Bailey, senior tax consultant with IRS in Pinellas County. She also suggested area residents encourage family members, neighbors and friends who may be eligible for the rebate to take the necessary steps. Form 1040A can be downloaded from the agency’s website, www.IRS.gov, or completed and filed electronically. In addition, tax form assistance by members of local TaxAide Clubs, will be offered Monday, September 15. The form preparation session is scheduled for 9 AM to 2 PM in the Sandpiper Room of the Atrium on North Pebble Beach Blvd. in Sun City Center. There is no charge for the help. Filers should bring their 2007 SSA or other income reports with them. The federal economic stimulus package provides $300 to $600 for individuals or as much as $1,200 per couple. Telephone Bob Larson at 634-3047 or email Bailey at Marcia.Bailey@IRS.gov for more information. …Kings Point Decals All this week residents can obtain their vehicle decals – the small, numbered, color-coded symbol of residency that facilitates entry to the community – at a new site designed to make the process quicker and easier. KP Security personnel are affixing the decals to the lower left corner of resident vehicle windshields from 8 AM to noon through Friday, September 5, at the tent on Villmont Greens near the rear gate, according to Neal Desch, security chief. The new location provides sufficient room to efficiently serve the 350 to 400 vehicles expected each day of operation, he added. The three-year decals will be effective through December, 2011, and replace decals currently in effect but which expire on December 31, 2008. Decal recipients need the vehicle’s state registration (not necessarily Florida’s), along with proof of insurance and proof of condo unit ownership or occupancy. Another opportunity to obtain new decals also will be scheduled later in the year, Desch said. …Good Neighbor Award Do you know someone who helps others simply because that help is needed? If so, Hillsborough County’s Office of Neighborhood Relations wants to hear from you. The office is accepting nominations for the Fall, 2008, Lonnie Lea Napier Good Neighbor Award until Friday, September 12. Individuals, neighborhood associations and community groups can nominate for recognition any person who demonstrates the spirit and compassion of Napier, a county resident noted for his dedication to helping throughout his neighborhood. Napier lost his life trying to rescue a neighbor’s cat. The award carries with it a $2,000 grant to the association serving the neighborhood of the annual recipient. Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.hillsboroughcounty.org/onr/awardnom by clicking on the online form link at the bottom of the page.
