The production will be held July 17-19 and 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Riverview High School Auditorium. Riverview’s drama instructor and founder of the Riverview Little Theatre, Daron Hawkins; together with Bloomingdale High School’s choral and musical director, Bev Sutherland; and John Davis, band director at Riverview; tackle the musical production’s tough subject matter with the intention of showing that people with vast differences need to find ways to get along together. The controversial story of struggling artists and homeless people in New York City’s East Side deals with acceptance of others, poverty, illness, homosexuality and AIDS. With music and lyrics written by Jonathan Larson, the production is part of the Riverview High School Summer Musical Theatre Project and includes students not only from Riverview but also from Newsome, Bloomingdale, Durant, King, and Spoto high schools and Progress Village, Randall, and Giunta middle schools. Prior to each performance, 25 tickets will be sold by lottery at $5 each, and general admission price is $8. People may buy tickets online at www.TicketLeap.com.
