Obituaries
George T. Engelman, Jr.
George T. Engelman, Jr., 88, of Sun City Center and formerly of Johnstown, NY, passed away August 5, 2008 at Tampa General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Avery. He is survived by his present wife, Jane Bottorff; a son, George T. (Ted) Engelman, III, Denver, CO; a daughter, Martha E. Smith, Johnstown, NY; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He earned Bachelor and Masters degrees from Indiana University; entered the Army in WWII; became a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, serving during the Korean conflict and retired with the rank of Major. He was an educator at the high school, then college level, and retired from the State University of New York, having taught in Suny colleges at Oneonta and Johnstown and was one of the founders of Fulton-Montgomery Jr. College in Johnstown.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sun City Center, St. Patrick’s Lodge #4, F.&A.M., Johnstown, Theta Chi Fraternity, Lion’s Club, VFW, Reserve Officers Assn. and Retired Officers Assn.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Lion’s Club Hearing Conservation Program or a charity of your choice.
