Myra McCormick Joins Weichert, Realtors®
Colin Howgill, broker/owner of Weichert, Realtors®-SouthShore in Apollo Beach, has announced the addition of veteran Realtor Myra McCormick to the company’s growing sales team. “Myra brings a very impressive background and a well-established reputation for great customer service that makes her a natural fit with Weichert,” Howgill said. “Her energy and enthusiasm are legendary in the South Shore area and have served her clients well during previous service with Arvida/St. Joe at the Riverhills and Rivercrest communities,” earning her the 2004 “Top Sales Associate Award.”
McCormick received similar accolades with regard to her work while with Earthmark at Little Harbor, following up-the-ranks progress from sales associate to manager to owner of her own agency in Brandon. She joined the Apollo Beach agency “because it is one of the area’s most respected real estate companies and will enable me to maximize my experience and sense of teamwork,” she said.
Previous to real estate, McCormick owned the International Water Ski School that bore her name for 15 years. The colorful Realtor also has a reputation for wearing spectacular hats, Howgill added, saying, “We are all looking forward to seeing her suitably hatted together with her three Jack Russell terriers.”
Financial Empowerment Through Education and Coaching
“Build wealth, reduce debt!” is the slogan of the “Tampa Bay Saves” program. The program was launched in 2007 by a coalition of local agencies. Tampa Bay Saves is a part of America Saves program, a nationally recognized campaign that encourages individuals to save money, reduce debt and build wealth.
“The purpose of this program is to motivate residents to take action to improve their financial well being,” said Hillsborough County Extension Agent Lisa Leslie.
The latest initiative of Tampa Bay Saves is a new program called “Financial Empowerment Through Education and Coaching.” Funding for this program was made possible by a grant from Chase, through the JPMorgan Chase Foundation.
“Helping families understand their finances and the options available to them is a key goal at Chase,” said Luiz Lima, Managing Director for Chase in Tampa. “Tampa Bay Saves provides hands-on learning opportunities that give people the tools and knowledge they need to improve their financial situations.”
Hillsborough County Extension will partner with non-profit organizations, Bright Beginnings and Genesis Financial Management, on this project. The goal is to provide financial education and coaching that will help low-moderate income individuals improve their financial situation. The classes will cover topics such as developing a financial plan, reducing debt, wise use of credit, building credit scores, and using financial institutions. One–on-one coaching sessions with an accredited financial counselor, will be provided in between class dates.
The first set of classes will be held at the Family Support & Resource Center, 7520 W. Waters Ave., Tampa, 33615. Participants must commit to attending all classes and two coaching sessions. Pre-registration and a $7 seat deposit are required to reserve a spot. Seating is limited. Dates and topics for this first round of classes are: June 10, Developing a Financial Plan; June 17, Evaluating Credit Offers & Credit Scores; and June 24, Using Financial Institutions & Achieving Financial Goals. The classes will be held from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Childcare and refreshments will be provided.

Thunderbolts of Tampa Bay Need You
The Thunderbolts of Tampa Bay need active members who will be interested in creating a WWII Aviation Military Reenactment organization. It will be a nucleus of six half-size P-47 “Jug” fighter planes. These half-size aircraft will be pilot flown and use either an aircraft or converted automobile engine for power. The support units will be required also, which will include military vehicles and tents to operate from. The overall unit will be developed as a mobile fighter squadron. Displays of the unit will be at fairs and other events on the ground and in the air.
Too often of late it has been said that the present generation has no knowledge of what America went through during WWII. There is little understanding of the many sacrifices it took to enjoy the freedoms that exist today. The Thunderbolts are ready to preserve a piece of our history.
Their theme is dedication to the 56th Fighter Group from 1942-1947; the most famous aces were assigned to this group. The problem since is that many have reached a great age and are being lost. Their history could be lost with them.
The Thunderbolts are presently meeting at 1 p.m. on the last Saturday of the month in the administration building at Peter O’Knight Airport. They are in need of all careers, since this will be a ground and air group.
