A View From Iraq

On September 7, 2004 Curtis Jackson, a Rap Artist who is known professionally as "50 cent," and his group "G-Unit," performed for American Troops in Balad, Iraq.

Personal protection for the artist was provided by Sun City Center resident, Elmer L. Snow who is currently working a security assignment in Iraq.

 

Camp Anaconda In Balad, Iraq got the “beat” as American rapper “50 Cent” performed for the troops.

"Admittedly, I’m not a fan of this type of music, but I’m a great fan of any entertainer who will risk their life and safety to support our American Troops," Snow stated. Besides the oppressive heat, incoming mortars were our biggest fear during the show. "I believe our average is sixty mortars a month and it wasn’t until the entertainers had departed that we had the daily attack," he added.

Balad, Iraq is better known in military circles as Camp Anaconda and is located approximately an hour north of Baghdad.

Future assignments for Snow involve a Country and Western entertainer and two professional wrestlers. His biggest objective is to return home before Thanksgiving.
