Jayson B. Shahan,
Navy Seaman Recruit Jayson B.Shahan, son of Peggy J. and Patrick R. Shahan of Riverview,recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Shahan completed a variety of
training which included classroom study and practical instruction on
naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and
shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical
fitness.The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations”. This
exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed
in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic
warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in
each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and
the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly
’’Navy’’ flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor.Shahan is a 2007 graduate of Riverview High School of
Riverview.



Ryan E. Lackore
Coast Guard Seaman Ryan E. Lackore, son of Tammy and Rick V. Lackore of Gibsonton, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J.

During the eight-week training program, Lackore completed a vigorous training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.

Lackore and other recruits also received instruction on the Coast Guard’s core values — honor, respect and devotion to duty — and how to apply them in their military performance and personal conduct. Lackore will join 36, 000 other men and women who comprise Coast Guard’s force.

Men and women train together from the first day in the Coast Guard just as they do aboard ships and shore units throughout the world. To reinforce the team concept, Lackore, and other recruits were trained in preventing sexual harassment, drug and alcohol awareness, civil rights training, and the basics of the work-life balance, as well as total quality management.

Lackore is a 2004 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School of Fort Atkinson, Wis.


Hansel J. Rabell
Air Force Cadet Hansel J. Rabell has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The graduate received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.

The academy offers a four-year educational program of instruction and experience designed to provide cadets the knowledge and character essential for air and space leaders, and the motivation to serve as Air Force career officers. The curriculum provides a balanced program of military training, academics, physical training, athletic conditioning, and character and ethical development.

The courses of study allow cadets to acquire a broad education  in the basic and engineering sciences, social sciences, the humanities, including additional elective courses needed to complete requirements for one of 25 major areas of study. The new lieutenants go on to serve as pilots, navigators, engineers, maintenance officers, professionals in various management and technical fields, and some attend medical or graduate school with special scholarships, while others go directly to non-rated Air Force-wide assignments. The officer is scheduled to attend undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Columbus, Miss. He is the son of Felix R. Rabell of Magnolia Trails Lane, Gibsonton,  and Carmen F. Rabell of S. Page Road, Avon Park. In 2003, he graduated from Avon Park High School.



Isabelle M. Clapp
Department of the Army Civilian Isabelle M. Clapp has arrived for duty at Fort Belvoir, Fairfax, Va. Clapp, a resource manager, is assigned to the Resource Management Office. She has more than 26 years of military service.

She is the daughter of Sara and stepdaughter of Bob Sink of Emerald Lake Drive, Sun City Center.

 Clapp attended Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., where she received a bachelor’s degree in 1982, and a master of business administration degree in 1984. She earned an additional master’s degree in 2007 from the Army War College, Carlisle, Pa.




Alex W. Park
