What Should the Community Know?

It is important for us as adults to give children their voice, to make sure that they are allowed and able to express themselves; to know that they can make changes. EarthForce has given kids that very voice; they let kids discover for themselves that they can make a difference in the community and in the world. I have explained what EarthForce wants the community to know about their projects, but what about the kids?

These 3 bags are a small sampling of what EarthForce is all about. The students from Ms. Sherwood’s classes collected this trash at Bullfrog Creek.

What would the students from Ms. Sherwood’s 4th and 5th grade class want us to know about their project? Below are quotes from various students involved in the EarthForce project in Ms. Sherwood’s class. This is what they want all of us to know about their project and that it is possible to make change.
“I want people to know that our number one goal is awareness about water pollution and its impact on the environment.”

“I think people should stop littering Bullfrog Creek and start putting trash in a trash can or hold it until they get to their car or a trash can. We have been picking up trash and we hope it stays clean, if it doesn’t stay clean, the wildlife will get hurt.”

“We are helping our community by cleaning Little Bullfrog Creek and we are doing our best so that the park could be clean. We are testing the water and seeing what kind of animals are in the water.”
“The reason we are doing this is because we want to help the community.”

“What I want people to know about our project is that you should use a garbage can and not the ground.”
“People should know that they can keep this community clean by doing these things: throw garbage in the garbage can, pick up any garbage that is laying around.”

“A good reason we picked up trash is that it saves animals and doesn’t pollute the water or sky. We want people to know what we did so that they will not litter and help clean-up so it can be a better place for water, animals, people and the environment.”

“I would love people to know that Vance Vogel Park can be a beautiful park if everybody tried to keep the park clean.”

“One of the things I would like the community to know is that our water is very important and we need to keep it clean and pick up trash so it doesn’t get washed into the creeks or rivers or the bay.”

“I want the community to know that I can make a difference!”
