Chamber Notes

By Daniel Kushmer

Several years ago, the four chambers of commerce representing SouthShore formed an alliance. Apollo Beach, Riverview, Ruskin, and Sun City Center understood the need to market our area collectively and by doing so two committees came from this alliance. The economic development and marketing committee have been working diligently on research, development, and projects that show SouthShore in a positive light.

In forming the SouthShore Alliance each chamber contributed financial and volunteer resources all the while understanding more money will be needed. Hence, the SouthShore Business Directory. The directory was produced about two years ago and combined the membership directories of the four chambers along with valuable information on SouthShore. In producing this directory funds were raised by selling advertising, these funds have been used to produce a full color 11 x 17 promotional brochure that has been sent to interested businesses considering relocating to SouthShore.

Recently, the Alliance produced an Ecotourism Guide. This guide is currently in the five visitor centers operating along the border of the State of Florida. Designed to promote and tout the benefits of visiting SouthShore and enjoying all the area has to offer will make this guide a valuable resource in promoting tourism in SouthShore.

The future of the Alliance will have the economic development committee putting together demographics and other pertinent information in order to promote a positive business climate in SouthShore. This packet will be packaged in such a way that all four chambers can customize the presentation to fit the needs of each inquiry.

Finally, the SouthShore Alliance will once again produce the SouthShore Business Directory. This updated version will have the latest economic data along with information on the benefits of vacationing in SouthShore. Of course, each chamberís membership directory will be featured giving the members the opportunity to promote their business. In order to produce this directory the Alliance will once again sell advertising which in turn will generate needed funds to continue the promotion of SouthShore.

The Alliance produced 10,000 copies of the first directory which have been given out at each chamber, mailed around the world and featured at booths at various trade shows. This directory contained sixty-four full color pages and a handsome cover. The new directory will be even better and judging by the interest in SouthShore will be well received. Look for your opportunity to participate in this directory in the coming months.
